Mirror of Mystery

This bronze mirror was excavated from tombs and ruins dating from the late Middle Yayoi to the Kofun period. Its name comes from the triangular cross-section of its rim and the depictions of deities and mythical beasts on the back. About 400 have been found, two bearing the era name of the Chinese Wei dynasty. It may be the type of mirror given to a Japanese queen, as recorded in Chinese history.
